Having just finished Jennifer Rohn's 'The Honest Look' (which I liked a lot), I am now reading 'Slaughterhouse 5' by Kurt Vonnegut. I'm now a good third into the book and still don't know what to make of it. Or why these friends of mine chose the name for their industrial music club. Well, maybe I can indeed see why. So it goes. As I had already mentioned I'm also reading Christopher Hitchens' memoir, 'Hitch-22'. A bit bleak and depressing book for the most part, so far, but I s'pose you would expect that, in the author's current circumstances. As the reviews and the book blurb talk about it being moving and funny, maybe I just haven't read enough of the book yet.

books

I've got to admit - I find Catch 22 (not Hitch 22) good only in the last quarter (though it does start off well - I find the bit in between to drag on a bit).

I enjoyed slaughter house 5 though I remember it was quite odd.

The temporal shifts, etc don't bother me, but there is weirdness way beyond that... I'm only beginning to get into it as Billy is finally getting to Tralfamadore .....

You definitely need to finish Slaughterhouse 5, and then go back and read it again, and a third time too.

Catch 22 is one of the best books ever written, so you should absolutely add it to your list. It starts meandering round in ever decreasing circles for the last fifth of the book, but everything that goes before that is wonderful.

I hadn't mentioned Catch 22, although thanks for the recommendation , will read it at some point. Probably between now and when the new Ice and Fire book comes out in paper-back (at which point hopefully the kindle version should come down a bit in price). So, anyway, yes, added to my list:)
