Today: lesson, then lesson, then doctor's appointment, then lesson.… - Echoes of Flavio's Ghost Dreaming
Today: lesson, then lesson, then doctor's appointment, then lesson. Then hopefully some guitar practice.

The week-end was ok. Didn't go to Inferno on Friday, but did go to Neo Noir on Saturday and danced quite a bit. Didn't stay very long as I was expecting a busy working Sunday, which pretty much dematerialised -only two of the six lessons I was expecting to do actually took place.

Just finished reading 'Ender's Game', which, again, I hadn't read. Had avoided looking up the author in Wikipedia until I finished it but I was not surprised to find the man's a right winger, a religious zealot and a homophobe. Confusingly, the book is a good read but I was uneasy about it all the way through. Not sure I'll read the remaining books in the series.

I read Ender's game about 15 years ago before i knew what a horrid bigot OSC was. I remember quite liking it and reading the rest of the trilogy. But now I never want to go back and read anything else he wrote. :(

I can understand that. As for reading anything else of his stuff, only in the circumstances Dave describes in his comment :P or not at all. I do buy stuff I read -sometimes after I have downloaded and read it; if I like something I feel I should pay for it. However, although I liked the book (with several big provisos) I would not want to contribute to make a man of his, ahem, qualities, any the richer.

Card a homophobe? Strewth yes! There's recently been a big dust up in the western comics publishing industry when DC engaged him to write Superman. Check: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/03/orson-scott-card-superman-comic/

There's a surprising number of gifted artists that have anti-ethical views.

Some very naughty people think it's OK to download such artists work without paying for it :) Of course I would never do or suggest such a thing myself.

:D I do pay for stuff I like (and bought Ender's Game as an ebook) but I don't think I will be buying any more of his stuff.

Yeah, I know the inevitable examples of Wagner and, to a lesser extent, Jorge Luis Borges always come up. Tricky one -I do like Wagner's music and J L Borges' books, but I'm not sure I would want to materially support an artist in any field who spoused the sort of views that OSC seems to adhere to. All in all, easier not to read him, there's plenty of interesting SF out there I haven't read.
