contrasts

Three very different events this week-end just gone. On Friday I went to the Dev for Ingella's (what was her LJ name?) leaving drinks. The Dev hasn't changed that much in the time since Robin and Jenine were fired. It still is loud and dirty and I get a certain aggressive vibe that I don't like. And hasn't got good beer, but that would not be such an important consideration if it weren't for the other issues. Why is it, BTW, that 'rock' pubs (the Fox, Big Red., the Dev) so seldom have good beer?

Saturday brought the Hampstead Alternative Picnic again. It was not a very big event this time, understandably given the weather on the day but it was a good gathering and it didn't rain.

On Sunday I went, together with two pupils, to the Open Day of the West Dean Classical Guitar Festival. I had fun, as did my pupils, met some old faces (and some really are now old faces,. which is strange and is also a sort of mirror held to your own face), saw a couple of very good performances and a couple just as interesting informal ones. I still left feeling that I love that world but, much as often happens to me with the goth scene, also a feeling with it that I don't wholly belong. I could elaborate on this, I think I know what makes me feel like this but I'll leave it at that for now. Still, it was a lovely day and I really should go to the full event next year.
