[ Books ] Children of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky

Children of TimeChildren of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book a lot. The last survivors of humankind, away in the stars fighting for their survival and their possible last home with sentient spiders who are pretty much the creation of that humankind in long decline that has had to abandon Earth. The characters are on the whole (with a couple of notable exceptions, for me, including Guyen and Dr Avrana Kern, who are clearly plot devices rather than people) more believable than is often the case in SF -including some of the spiders. The story is gripping ... but I did find the ending was stretching my suspension of disbelief rather thin, to breaking limits. Still, a very good read.
